Age Verification in Second Life, Epic Failure
If you are planning to visit Second Life's Adult Continent, Zindra, then you'll need to have your account Age Verified and you do this by entering your personal information in the Age Verification page of your Second Life account. The process is very simple and it would only take a few minutes of your time to get your Second Life account Age Verified.
Unfortunately, the system is not perfect. In fact, many Second Life residents who Age Verified themselves failed the verification process because the system didn't recognize the information they entered even though the information they entered or use are theirs and, don't forget, there are also those people who do not wish to enter or use their personal information because of whatever personal reasons they may have.
Fortunately, Second Life's Age Verification doesn't care whether the information you enter is yours or not, real or fake, legitimate or illegitimate, etc. As long as the information you enter or use checks out, you'll have nothing to worry about. So, if you Age Verified using your real personal information but failed then, don't worry, just use another person's personal information (that's how flawed Second Life's Age Verification is).
There are hundreds of public records available online where you can grab other people's personal information from. You don't even have to look very far. If you have friends and family then you can use their personal information instead. In fact, Second Life's Age Verification is so flawed that it even recognizes James Bond as a real life person.
Now, if you can Age Verify your Second Life account using a fictional character's personal information then you don't even have to use another person's real life personal information. There are hundreds of fictional characters out there from movies, books, television series, cartoons, etc. If they got, some kind of, personal information complete with an address and a valid ID then why not try that instead.
According to Second Life, Age Verification "helps ensure that minors can't gain access to inappropriate adult, mature content in Second Life" but before that they said it's not foolproof. Seriously, how can they "ensure" if it's not foolproof. Whatever these people are smoking, they should stop it immediately.
At least, they were honest about it.
Second Life's Age Verification does not stop minors from accessing ADULT content in-world and because, the system is so flawed, any fool can easily get around it. I feel that it just annoy legitimate adults who tried to get Age Verified using their real personal information but failed or got rejected by the system. In other words, it just adds to the many hassles a resident have to, unnecessarily, endure in-world.
Anyway, if Second Life's Age Verification is giving you a hard time getting your Second Life account Age Verified then simply try to use those listed below (copied and pasted from slapt.me wiki).

While not foolproof, age verification can provide an additional layer of trust for inworld businesses and Residents. It also helps ensure that minors can't gain access to inappropriate adult, mature content in Second Life. - Second Life Wiki

Elvis Presley / Graceland / 3764 Elvis Presley Boulevard / Memphis / United States / Tennesse / (Zip Code) 38116 / (DOB) Jan 8 1935 / (Driver’s License) 2571459I guess, these are publicly available information but I'm not sure if any of them still works with Second Life's Age Verification. Last I heard, Linden Lab is already blocking these.
Tupac Shakur / 7660 Beverley Boulevard / Los Angeles / United States / California / (Zip Code) 90036 / (DOB) June 16 1971 / (Driver’s License) A7746771
Mohamed Ata / 10001 W Atlantic Blvd / Coral Springs / United States / Florida / (Zip Code) 33071 / (DOB) 09-01-68 / (Driver’s License) R01015020258
Richard Todd Davis / (DOB) 2 Nov 1940 / SSN 457-55-5462 (possible example)
silly person. age verification is not about preventing minors from having access to adult material. it is however, all about attaching a real life identity to your avatar's account. if you have age verified, Linden Lab now has a database that has real life information associated with your avatar's identity. what they will do, or plan to do with this information is only speculation, but one can guess. this kind of information is valuable and... bankable.
ReplyDeleteI've been getting a lot of weight loss and diet e-mail spams lately. Do you think Linden Lab has something to do with it? You know, with the information they have on me. :)
ReplyDeleteSecond Life's age verification = identity theft. They request sensitive personal information such as your ID card or passport, entirely disregarding personal and online privacy. And what for? To make sure kids don't lie to see some 3D porn? You can't be serious.
ReplyDeleteYou basically give them your whole life. Information about where you live, who your parents are, your full name, and even your picture. LL has no right to request this! It's outrageous that no legal action has been taken so far, and they're being allowed to do this for years.
I would have to completely and utterly agree with this article and the comments that are made. But wtf is wrong with Second Life? Second life's age verification is invasion of privacy. IF they want 16 and 17 year olds to use Sl, then what they need to do is give the 16 and 17 year-olds a completely different program to download. And give the 18 and over users the same one we've always used. And get rid of the identity stealing age verification system. And just keep the 16 and 17 year olds in a seperate location.
ReplyDeleteall i gave was a DOB and it age verified me lol
ReplyDeleteThat's the new process. Now, all you have to do is give them a fake date of birth and your age verified. :D
